Make sure you discuss clichés associated with scientists - male, white coats, bad hair, test tubes, pens in pockets etc.

It is said that 78% of people cannot name one scientist let alone discuss their field of exploration.

Your challenge -to inspire in your students an appreciation for the work done by scientists.

Introduction - In your opinion which scientist has had the biggest impact on life in the world today.

Watson & Francis Collins, Michio Kaku, Wernher von Braun, Rosalind Franklin, James Watson and Francis Crick.

Task -

Part One - Each child is to present a 2 minute presentation on a particular scientist. They may read from a mind map that has: a picture of the scientist at the centre, when born and died, a couple of points about their early life and early education, their major field of work, why they are famous and how their work influences our life today.

Part Two - Debate who has had the biggest influence.
